On Thursday, Paul took us to Portobello Aquarium to learn how to film underwater. Ed Jowett (of nhnz field store fame) came and did a bit of a guest speaker appearance telling us all about pole-cams. I'm addicted! Of course, the best bit came when we got to play, and I've bunged together a bit of a montage of some of the footage we took.
Pole-cams are mad unwieldy things, and come with equally crazy attachment devices. Who ever thought that one of the most sensible ways to view what your filming would be through a viewfinder attached to a helmet?!
Because of the loss of my beloved camera, I must thank Kat (who is a honey) for the use of hers.
This is how stoked pole-caming makes me!

I love skatey skate and the way he pops up and waves at us. He's my favourite show pony of the lot, better than pete the paua who gripped on for dear life after Draino kept feeling him up. Fair enough though. poor guy, pete that is. Ahhh pole cam is fun fun fun. It's animal wrangling/prodding in a whole other way.
Aaaaaahhhhhhh! you've done it again. Just when I think you can't get a mite more clever and creative, you trounce my pre-conceived notions. J you are a wicked storyteller! That film epitomises the spirit of our day at the aquarium, a fun-filled discovery of crazy fishy film apparatus. YOU ROCK!
Nice video. What is the music?
oh, and Pete the Paua and I are totally cool, by the way. Unlike the Paua that you are going to fry up at the bbq today, afirmatron.
JINT! how the hell do you have time to make wiked clips like that??? The music is mighty fine too. Love all that mucking around before even getting into the water. We're thinking forget beech forests, look out kelp forest :)
its sarah btw -i upgraded to beta blogger which means i cant log into anyone elses site- boo!!!forget beech its kelp all the way! ;)
by the way draino its badly drawn boy from the about a boy soundtrack, i can give it to you - its wicked - good n ya jint!(though only 7 seconds loaded fro me! :o )
Haha thanks guys - but I must admit only about 10 seconds of that vid is actually my own footage, so I must pass on praise to whoever enticed skatey skate close to the camera (I actually think it was Mark, haha)...
Badly Drawn Boy floats my boat too, Sarah - and I can also supply the CD if Dwayne-o want it. The track is #10 - not sure what it's called - and I did muck around with the end a little, in order to get it to do what I wanted. The original's much better though, longer, and cooler.
